If this happens, I can guarantee you this beach will be like all the others "nothing special". Why do you think the tourists come here in the first place? Because it is the only protected beach in the area where they can see horses roam freely and take a step away from the hustle and bustle of commercialization. I guarantee if you asked them why they chose this beach, it would not be because they were looking for hotels and shops on the beach. God Bless Carova Beach the way it is!

People who have choosen to live on the off road beaches do so BECAUSE OF, not in spite of the lack of development. This is their way of life, this is the very reason why they choose this area for their home. Tourists who vacation at these beautiful undeveloped beaches come here BECAUSE OF, not in spite of the lack of commercialization. In 10 years I have only heard people say they choose our off road beaches because they are looking for the peach and tranquility and LACK OF commercialization. They want to escape to a place that has seemed to "stand still in the midst of time." We are truly a case of "Less if Best." Imagine in 20 years, 50 years, what a rare gem these beaches will be if left undeveloped. Our beaches are PRICELESS. So for all of you want to be off road, commercialized developers, please take your MasterCards to an already commercialized beach and use them there.
Instead of destroying what is a very unique characteristic of Currituck County and, indeed, the entire United States, by developing the Four Wheel Drive Area, protect it and the wild horses at all costs. The County is acting short-sighted and greeding by giving in to developers who want to develop the four wheel drive area. Instead of following such a foolish plan, pursue the promotion of that area. It is one of the things that makes the Currituck County Outer Banks unique. It drives visitors from the Southern Outer Banks northward where they spend time and money in the county. It perserves a unique place in history and it a provides a truly rare opporutunity for tourists and residents alike. The county does a horrific job of promoting the wild horses and the four wheel drive area. It can be better promoted and should be to drive tourist dollars to the Currituck Outer Banks. Haven't we had enough of short-sighted greed. Look to the long term and preserve the uniqueness of the Currituck Outer Banks.
